William Doherty's Donation of Civil War Records
William O. Doherty Jr., a Civil War historian and valued author of articles for South of the Mountains, has donated his collection of records of over 60 Rockland County soldiers who fought in the War Between the States to the Historical Society of Rockland County.
Now We Know!
In the October–December 2022 issue of South of the Mountains, an article "From the Collections" featured a letter written by a woman named Harriet and mailed from Palisades in 1910. Palisades Historian Alice Gerard has identified the writer as Harriet Post and some of the characters mentioned in her chatty letter.
