A Rockland County Dutch Barn in Hiding
Greg Huber is a house and barn historian who has been a student of historic vernacular architecture since 1974. He has examined over 600 Dutch American barns in New York State and New Jersey. Greg and John Fitchen co-authored the book The New World Dutch Barn: The Evolution, Forms and Structures of a Disappearing Icon, published in 2001. Greg Huber has written more than 80 articles on this barn style. This is his second article for South of the Mountains.
2024 Historical Society Dinner and Awards
The annual dinner of the Historical Society of Rockland County took place on May 19 at the Paramount Country Club in New City. Seven awards were presented: the Lifetime Service Award, the Community Service Award, and the Living Landmark Award, along with four Historic Preservation Awards: the Margaret B. and John R. Zehner Award, a Preservation Leadership Award, a Preservation/Restoration Award and a Special Commendation
