Mark Waller will give this fascinating talk on the history of the early to mid-twentieth-century artists’ salons in Rockland

Learn about how renowned artists such as Thomas Hart Benton, Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Jo Davidson, and Miriam Schapiro factored into the county’s remarkable place in art history and hear how they all interconnected with other important art world figures and movements.

About the presenter: In 1999, Mark Waller relocated from London to New York and undertook a period of extensive academic research of Rockland County artists. In 2003, he and Stephanie Arvey reopened Gallery Moderne – Le Style Lalique Ltd. in Piermont. Mark has been researching further into the deeper aspects of Lalique's formative years in relation to the global art movements and continues to cultivate a deeper awareness and appreciation of Rockland County Artists from the 19th and 20th century, such as Arthur B. Davies and Edward Hopper. He helped mount two exhibitions of René Lalique's glass at the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Museum and the important Lalique retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. He is frequently asked to advise on the subject by museums and collectors internationally.
